Admission Criteria

Upon acceptance to the program, each student must attend a mandatory Orientation Program to review and discuss the program, curriculum and important information contained in the catalog.
Admission Policies
Application to Global Health is required to enter the program. Application criteria are fairly applied to all students. A current history and physical exam by a licensed health care provider documenting physical, emotional, and psychological stability sufficient to meet the demands of a professional nursing program. “The ability to function independently in a clinical practice setting is essential to the role of professional nursing” (AACN, 2001).

The Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing defines Practical Nursing as: "Practical Nursing or Licensed Practical Nursing means the performance for compensation of selected nursing acts in the care of individuals or groups who are ill, injured, or experiencing changes in normal health processes; in the maintenance of health; in the prevention of illness or disease; or subject to such regulations as the board may promulgate, in the teaching of those who are or will be nurse aides. Practical Nursing or Licensed Practical Nursing requires knowledge, judgment and skill in nursing procedures gained through prescribed education. Practical Nursing or Licensed Practical Nursing is performed under the direction or supervision of a licensed medical practitioner, a professional nurse, Registered Nurse or registered professional nurse or other licensed health professional authorized by regulations of Board".
The institution offers a full-time and part time Practical Nursing program. Global Health Institute’s goal is to prepare the PN graduates to sit for the PN National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Successful candidates will be eligible to apply for PN positions in a variety of settings. The program requires the practical nurse graduate to complete 1,328 clocked hours of instruction. Clinical are conducted in a variety of settings in VA, DC and MD.
The institution offers a full-time or part-time Medical Assistant program(MA). Global Health Institute's goal is to prepare the MA graduates to sit for the National Healthcare Association (NHA). Successful candidates will be eligible to apply for MA positions in a variety of settings. The program requires the MA to complete 200 clock hours of instruction in the following areas: Clinical and administrative skills, Phlebotomy and EKG.
The test is structurally broken down into three sections:
Verbal :Word knowledge and reading comprehension
Math Basic calculations, word problems, Algebra, Geometry, conversions, and graphs
Science: General Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Health, Human Anatomy and Human Physiology
Entrance exam consist of Basic Math, Science and English, with average score of 50%
Bring a photo ID
50 for the test. Allow at least 2 1/2 hours for the test. No cell phones, books, electronic devices allowed; a calculator is provided in the test.

1. Can I work as a nurse after I complete your program?
- yes, after you take and pass the NCLEX
2. Are my credits transferable to other school?
- yes but it depend on the school, it is best to contact them
3. Are we accredited?
-no, we are approved by the Virginia board of nursing and certified by SCHEV, meaning you are able to work as a nurse after you have passed the NCLEX.
4. How long is your program?
-15 months with 2 days a week until clinical begins making it 3 days a week. some exclusions apply please contact admission.
-18 months when the students begins classes one day a week for structure and function and then two days week and then a 3rd day when clinical courses begin
5. Do we have Christmas or spring break?
-there is a Christmas break and spring break.
Cost of attendance (COA) refers to the average amount a full-time and/or part-time student enrolled in classes at Global Health Institute can expect to spend by the completion of the program.

The founder, Mariatu Kargbo, is a successful entrepreneur and educator who believes in life-long learning and providing opportunity to all who seek a better life and fulfilling career path. Her passion for motivating and educating others to follow their dreams evolved into her own dream of starting a nursing school. Ms. Kargbo is a graduate of George Mason University where she received several degrees: a bachelor’s degree in marketing, a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing and a family practice nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in a medical surgical nursing unit and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and as a family nurse practitioner, all prior to founding Global Health. Additionally, she received her law degree from Concord Law School.
