Practical Nursing Program

Fulfilling Careers Start Here!

Global Health Institute offers 15-month (65 Weeks) and 18-month (78 Weeks) Practical Nursing programs. The goal of the program is to prepare graduates to successfully sit for the Practical Nursing National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN). Graduates who pass the NCLEX-PN will be eligible to apply for Practical Nurse positions across a variety of healthcare settings.


The program requires completion of 1,328 clocked hours of instruction, including clinical experiences conducted in diverse settings across Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland.

Prefer an immersive learning experience? Our Residential Option offers traditional in-person classes and hands-on clinicals with direct faculty support. 

Blended

Prefer more flexibility? The Blended Option combines online coursework with scheduled campus sessions, perfect for students managing work, family, or other commitments.

What Is Practical Nursing?

The Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing defines Practical Nursing as:

"Practical Nursing or Licensed Practical Nursing means the performance for compensation of selected nursing acts in the care of individuals or groups who are ill, injured, or experiencing changes in normal health processes; in the maintenance of health; in the prevention of illness or disease; or subject to such regulations as the board may promulgate, in the teaching of those who are or will be nurse aides. Practical Nursing or Licensed Practical Nursing requires knowledge, judgment and skill in nursing procedures gained through prescribed education. Practical Nursing or Licensed Practical Nursing is performed under the direction or supervision of a licensed medical practitioner, a professional nurse, Registered Nurse or registered professional nurse or other licensed health professional authorized by regulations of Board."

The Hearty Nurse Scholarship

Hearty Nurse scholarship, is awarded to ALL students who meet the admission criteria for the next Practical Nursing Program.


Scholarship Amount: $8,000.00 (some exclusion apply).


Total tuition after scholarship: $14,555.00.


We do not offer federal student aid or loans.

  • Proof of government-issued photo identification.
  • Evidence of GED, high school transcript, or transcript for an associate’s degree.
  • Criminal background check completed through a Global Health Institute -approved company.
  • Completed application form accompanied by a $30 non-refundable application fee.
  • Satisfactory performance on the entrance exam, which requires a $50 non-refundable fee.

  • Submission of immunization records including Hepatitis B (waivers not accepted), Influenza, MMR, Tetanus-diphtheria, Varicella, PPD/chest x-ray, and COVID-19 vaccinations if required.
  • Completion of a 10-panel drug screen through a GHI-approved company.
  • Valid CPR certification from a GHI-authorized instructor.
  • Evidence of a current physical examination by a licensed healthcare provider documenting physical, emotional, and psychological stability required to meet professional nursing demands. (The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN, 2001) emphasizes: “The ability to function independently in a clinical practice setting is essential to the role of professional nursing.”)

Participation in a mandatory orientation program covering the program overview, curriculum details, and catalog information is required for all accepted students.

  • Global Health Institute does not consider advanced placement for transfer or experiential credits.
  • Remedial or refresher courses are not accepted for credit.

Entrance Exam

What To Expect

  • Bring a photo ID and $50.
  • Allow at least 2.5 hours for the test.
  • Cell phones, books, and electronic devices are not allowed.
  • Calculator is provided.
  • Must achieve an average score of 50%

Take An Entrance Exam That Covers:

  1. Verbal: Word knowledge and reading comprehension.
  2. Math: Basic calculations, word problems, Algebra, Geometry, conversions, and graphs.
  3. Science: General Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Health, Human Anatomy and Physiology.
